ABNORMAL FORMAL
New Years Eve, 2009
New Years Eve was a special event for us. Having the ability to take weeks for set up, and knowing the 2000 sq. ft. venue could remain in place for weeks after, allowed us to more deeply transform the venue to our liking, and to add more detail to our installation.
It was a charitable event for Burners Without Borders and we again shared the venue with Zirk Ubu's amazing talent along with many other guest artists, DJs and performers. We had the good fortune in following weeks to also have our works shown during many following events, concerts, brunches and dinners until we finally uninstalled in preparation for our next big show at the Oceanside Museum of Art.
SUSHI PERFORMANCE AND VISUAL ARTS
December, 2009
Sushi hosts a month long exhibit featuring Nigel's solo blacklight vision, I Am Rome "A Blacklight Exhibit of totems, cultural myths & demigods. Make no assumptions"
SYNERGY ARTS FOUNDATION, CIRQUE DE SYNERGIE
November 8th, 2008
After experiencing our work one month prior (see below), the Synergy Arts Foundation requests we leave our main gallery in place for their annual fundraiser, we are of course very honored to comply. Their event is a smash success. Among many other artists and performers, also performing is Zirk Ubu visionary theater, yet another one of the many projects Iain has his hands in.
THE HOUSE OF THE FUTURE, AN ANCIENT GALLERY FUNDRAISER
October 11th, 2008
Ian Ashley and Brian Judelson invite us to assume complete control of their home, their patios, their yard and for a time even their lives as we transform their entire house into an art exhibit. Their House of the Future designed in 1953 by famed architect Lloyd Ruocco for the World Expo becomes our canvas for a gala evening event with music, art, dance, & performance. The main gallery remains in place for nearly a year and plays host to many events.
THE SAN DIEGO MUSEUM OF ART
The Ancient Gallery and FM 94.9 teamed up to present the second installment of Sights + Sounds, a multi-sensory experience of art and music, on Thursday, December 13, from 7:00 to 10:30 p.m. Presented in conjunction with SDMA's cutting-edge exhibition Animated Painting, we performed an epic feat by setting up our best venue yet in a matter hours, hosting thousands as they packed the venue after waiting in long lines for a viewing, then tore down again in only three hours. An exhausting yet extremely rewarding experience!
THE PINK PARTY, (BREAST CANCER AWARENESS FUNDRAISER)
Saturday, November 17th, 2007
We donate our works to create a venue for The Pink Party San Diego. This is their second annual fundraiser embracing many local artists, silent auctions, fashion show, cocktails and live performance. The artists each create new works specific to the evening's theme, visit the photo album for some images of the new pieces. All in all, a highly successful and very rewarding evening.
BURNINGMAN
August, 2007
For this year we bring the gallery again as a 800 sq, ft. venue. We've added some new pieces as usual, continuing to refine what works for this crowd and environment. We also again serve as the entrance for PlayaQ's exquisite dining experience. We additionally create a stand alone project for on-Playa placement. An eight foot tall by four foot square monolith, independently lighted, with each side devoted to a work of art by the individual artists. We also introduced the Xaracara this year, a blacklight reactive art car that carried as many as 25 people in parade float fashion for tours around the city, and also participated in PlayaQ's Carne Armada gift feedings of Media Mecca and the Department of Public Works.
ELYSIUM
June 22nd through 17th, 2007
For Elysium we construct a 400 sq. ft. venue opposite the main stage on the beautiful La Jolla Indian Reservation . The synergy of the stage performances with their incredible blacklight creations, and our artistic offerings work incredibly well together.
FUENTE ETERNO
May 8th through 11th, 2007
We take an abbreviated version of the gallery, about 400 square feet, several hours into Mexico to a remote oasis resort, Guadalupe Canyon Hot Springs. The promoter places us next to the main stage where again the venue is filled until the sun finally begins to rise.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BURNINGMAN DECOMPRESSION
Oct, 2006
Once again we create the now familiar gallery. Little has changed for this event, coming so close on the heels of Burningman. Many people enter the venue early in the evening, and never leave until close to dawn.
BURNINGMAN
August, 2006
This time a 1000 sq. ft. venue filled with much of our historical art, plus a few new ones such as a representation of Edvard Munch's The Scream which in this incarnation blows eight inch UV smoke rings 10-12 feet across the room via computer controlled robotics. For this event we added a sound system, playing ambient and intriguing melodies, synchronized with many of the effects. The Gallery also serves as a transitional entrance from the harsh realities of Burningman into the delicious experience of the premier restaurant of Burningman, Playa-Q.
SALLE MOREAU, XARA DULZURA (SAN DIEGO REGIONAL ART GATHERING)
April, 2006
Here we created our first incarnation of the 3D Blacklight Experience. A 1600 sq. ft. venue with 12 foot ceilings, filled with multiple art formats including kinetic and interactive sculptures, light reactive water fountains, black light bubble waterfalls and rain curtains, massive displays of rear projection lighting effects, all to be experienced with the use of provided 3D glasses.
GALLERY 1243, SAN DIEGO
2005
Iain and Nigel collaborate and create a 200 square foot installation to participate in a week-long multimedia event hosted by Taste Artisan Cheese Shop. In addition to their Blacklight Art, the event is host to a talented array of photographic artists and sculptures.
